Katakana Katakana is mostly used in Japanese to write the words from a foreign origin or to write the name of the person. For example the word coffee is written as コーヒー...Like wise many words are written using Katakana.The easy way to memorize it to study number of times to get familiarize with the letters.   These hiragana characters which represents ["] are called dakuten which has to be pronounced strongly from the throat.And other which represents [.] are called handakuten which is pronounced softly. So for the beginners to start with the language consists of three scripts form namely Hiragana,Katakana and Kanji.
